The Weekend Stories

We spent our weekend enjoying homecoming games and soccer tournaments.  Libby was voted homecoming attendant by the youth league football team.  She got a crown and a sash, so she was super excited.  (Libby walks around with an invisible crown on anyways, so she was in Heaven with a real one!)

Her friend Ty was her escort.  He's a very tall second grader and Libby is a very tiny first grader, but they made it work :)

They also did their dance during homecoming.  Libby is in the middle, front, third from the left.  You can't hear the music well, but the dance is set to "Shake it Off" by T.Swift.  (Which is very appropriate for Libby's homecoming, but that's a story for another day!)

Amidst all this homecoming chaos, Kyndall started soccer tournaments.  They won the first game and had to play the other WM team during the second game.

I took my camera.  I had every intention of taking pictures.  Really, I did.  But this game was so nail-bitingly intense that all my intentions flew out the window.  I had to concentrate on not throwing up.  Seriously.  No one scored at all until the third quarter, when our team sank a ball into the net.  During the fourth quarter, the other team scored.

Overtime in soccer is 5 minutes of regular game-time, and if no one scores, they go into a "Sudden Death" shoot-out.  Of course, our game went into a shoot-out after 5 minutes of intense playing, but no goals.  In the shoot-out, five players from each team line up (one at a time) against the goalie of the opposing team.  The team that gets the most goals in this wins.  Our team scored 2 points during the shoot-out and the other team scored 4, making the overall score 3-5.

It was the best soccer game I have seen in a while.  My girl is the next Mia Hamm, I'm telling you (and I'm not prejudiced at all).  When these WM kids reach high school age, there's going to be no stopping them on the soccer field!

The tournament is double-elimination, so K still has a few soccer games left before the end of the season.  And then it's on to basketball from there--no rest for this pregnant mommy! :)

Ra, Ra Ree! Kick 'Em in the Knee!

As mentioned in my previous post, Libby has started cheering this year! She loves it, and I love watching her.  (I'm not a good "cheer mom" though.  I think they are cute, regardless of whether they do the cheers right or not!)

Mal is helping coach her squad, which makes cheering even more special for Libby.  She walks around the house now, cheering or cartwheeling, or high-V'ing.  As if she wasn't loud enough before :)

Most of all, I think she loves having her own "thing".  Kyndall has had soccer and basketball, and even softball a time or two.  Libby has never been interested in sports, but she is soaking up the fact that people come to her "big games" (as she calls them), just to watch her!

Back in The Game

Disclaimer:  Prepare yourself, dear reader.  There are about to be a barrage of make-up posts headed your way.  Lots of things have happened since I last posted--back to school, the start of soccer, football (and cheer for Libby) season, our GENDER REVEAL!  It's all coming your way over the next few days, so hold onto your hats!

The West family is back in the game.. soccer game, that is.  Having never played soccer in school, Justin and I were skeptical when Kyndall wanted to sign up a few years ago.  Now, we're fanatics.  It's so intense.  It's so fast.  It can be rough and this pregnant mama wants to get on the field and yell at some referees for letting those big kids be rough with my baby.

But it's right up Kyndall's alley.  She's intense.  She's fast.  She's aggressive (i.e.:  a little rough).  And while I don't know that she'll be the next Mia Hamm, she's pretty darn good.  But even better, she loves it.  And that's what counts.

So if you are looking for us in the next few weeks, we'll either be at a soccer field or a football field, or split between the two =).

Hey guys! I've been MIA the past few days.  I am in the process of purchasing my own domain and all that jazz, and it's a bit confusing.  It's been taking up all my blog thoughts--I guess I'm a lot more technologically challenged than I thought :)

Here's a look at our week from the camera roll on my phone:

Last Friday, K was sick.  Went to the doctor and was diagnosed with strep.  My girl is so tough--for her to whine and complain is rare, but for her to lay around on me and snuggle like this, I knew something was up!

On Monday, we took a trip to Huntsville to Fleet Feet.  This is the view as we were crossing the bridge.  Can I just say again that I LOVE FALL?  

All ready for school on Tuesday :)

The girls have been BEGGING me to sign them up for another run.  (They do the 1 mile fun runs.)  I did, and Kyndall insisted that we start "training."  So Tuesday afternoon, we ran our first training run.  Libby made it about 20 steps before putting her hands on her hips, huffing and puffing and saying she was just too tired.  Kyndall, however, ran a half mile pretty quickly without stopping, then walked a little, and finished up the mile with a jog.  The girl is like her mama and can't keep a consistent pace for anything!

Soccer STAR

Kyndall had her first soccer game last week.  Despite whatever my girl may or may not be, she is FAST.  Lightening quick.  She's also pretty aggressive, and coordinated.  Soccer is definitely her "thing."

She LOVES it.  And so do I.  Soccer is non-stop action.  I've asked Justin to duct-tape my mouth and super glue me to my chair for the next game.  I can't control myself--I just get SO into the game!

Our first game, we played another team from K's school, so all the players knew each other.  As a mama, this stressed me a little.  I didn't want any hurt feelings.  I think this made the game extra-exciting for the kids.  They were all grinning, stealing the ball from each other.  So funny!

I really want her to stick with this sport.  I know I'm partial, but she's good.  Really good.  I might even see a scholarship in her future!

This is the first year for K to play basketball-- and she is LOVING it!  They've had a few practices and one practice game, but their first season game was yesterday.  She did SO good--no goals, but a steal and several good passes.  Not bad for a basketball beginner :)

I took her to Rhonda and Billy's the other day and Billy was going to take her to school.  L asked Billy who was keeping her the next day.  When he told her that they would be keeping her, she responded with "You're so lucky!"  That girl is something else, I tell you! She keep us laughing all the time-- such personality!!

Friday Free-For-All

It's been awhile since I've done a wrap-up post, and boy do I have a lot to catch up on!!

Kyndall is sailing right along in first grade, loving every single second.  Libby is treading water in Pre-K... some days are great, some not so much.  Shirts have been trucking along full speed, keeping us busier than we ever expected.  Soccer is in full swing, but will start wrapping up next week.  This week at school has been our week-long Grandparents celebration, so K has had lots of lunchtime visitors.  It's also the Book Fair, so my days have been absolutely swamped!

And in other news, WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!  It's been a whirlwind of a year for us trying to make a house decision.  We wanted to build, but that wasn't in the cards.  We wanted to buy around this time last year, but that fell through.  And now, we've found another one that we love.  We made an offer, they accepted, and we've signed the contract.  I think it's really happening!! We still have to suffer through the appraisal and the actual closing (which is scheduled for October 12).

Soccer love: A poem

There once was a girl named Kyndall,

And soccer she wanted to play.

But each time a practice was scheduled,

It would rain or storm all day.

Tonight should be the first practice,

We're hoping it doesn't rain again.

So far the day has been nice and dry,

And Kyndall has a big ol' grin!
